About Cyprus

 

The island of Cyprus is the Mediterranean's third largest island, and is known to be one of its most popular tourist destinations, attracting over 2.4 million tourists per year. Cyprus is famous for its warm climate, tranquilizing beaches, golden sandy shores and rich variety of landscapes. 
The Republic of Cyprus is one of the most advanced economies in the region, and has been a member of the European Union since 1 May 2004. 
Cyprus has four major cities, Nicosia (the Capital) which is located in the center of the island, Larnaca, Limassol and Paphos are all situated across the coastal line. Cyprus covers a total area of 9,251 sq km (37% of the northern part of the island is currently under Turkish Occupation) and a Coastline of 648 km.
Cyprus is filled with ancient civilization, some of the best preserved sites of prehistoric settlements found in the Eastern Mediterranean. From Tombs of Kings to carve-out solid rock pillars, Cyprus has also sustained many fine examples of Byzantine art which have survived on the island.
